How to Promote Your Business Blog on Pinterest

If you are an online business, you know how important it is to get traffic to your site, and having a business blog is one of the best ways to get more clicks to your website. You may be considering using Pinterest to get more traffic and sales. But what's the best way to use Pinterest to promote your business blog?

Read my step-by-step guide to getting more traffic from Pinterest:

What are the benefits of promoting your business blog on Pinterest?

1. Increased visibility on search engines

Being active on Pinterest with keyword-rich pins will help ensure your content is more visible in search on other search engines.

2. Higher website traffic

You need to consider your Pinterest strategy carefully from the start. Of course, sharing your blog on Pinterest will help to drive traffic back to your blog. But remember that your pins need to be optimised for search – you can't just drop a pin and expect an increase in traffic.

3. Improved website authority

When your blog gets clicks from Pinterest, it signals to other search engines that your blog is interesting and helpful and that people want to read it, thus helping to improve your website authority, ranking and visibility in organic search.

4. Increased website traffic from mobile devices

85% of Pinterest users come from the mobile app. Having a presence on Pinterest will help you tap into this market (and remember to check your website is optimised for mobile!)

5. Increased engagement from your target audience

85% of Pinterest users come from the mobile app. Having a presence on Pinterest will help you to tap into this market (and remember to check your website is optimised for mobile!)

6. Improved website traffic from visual search

One of my favourite benefits of being active on Pinterest for businesses is that your pins can rank very highly in Google Image Search. Ensure your pin designs have a clear text overlay to help encourage people to click and find out more.

Step-by-step instructions on how to promote your business blog on Pinterest

Step 1: Sign up for a business account

Go to the Pinterest homepage and click the ‘Sign Up' button. If you already have a personal account, you can easily convert it into a Business account by going to ‘Settings' and selecting ‘Upgrade to Business Account.'

Step 2: Research your keywords

This step is essential for ensuring that your pins get found in searches long into the future.

Type a few words that your blog is about into the Pinterest search bar and see what results are suggested in the drop-down menu. Pick the most relevant and include these words in the pins you create for your blog.

  • Include the keywords in your title.
  • Include the keywords in your pin description
  • Include the keywords within your pin image

Step 3: Create related boards for your blog content

It’s good practice to have more than one Pinterest board to save your pins to; aim for 10 different boards to start with. You could have boards on the same theme but are titled differently (and they could even target a different keyword search).

For example:

  • Pinterest Tips for Beginners
  • Pinterest Tips and Tricks
  • Pinterest Tips for Business

Step 4: Include a pin within the blog on your website

If you plan on being active on Pinterest and encouraging pinners back to your website, you must start making your blog Pinner-friendly.

One way to do this is to include a pin within your blog that someone can pin to their boards directly from your site. (Scroll down to the bottom of this blog to see an example).

Having a pin like this available on your blogs will encourage people to organically pin your content without you needing to do anything at all!

If you are doing this, ensure you are optimising your blog’s metadata with keywords to help your pin get found on Pinterest, and check that you have Rich Pins installed on your site.

Step 5: Add a “Pin it” button on your blog

This is a quick win for any blog to encourage people reading your blog to repin your content organically (as mentioned in step 4 above).

Installing this button will allow your blog readers to pin an image on your blog directly to their boards.

If you are using a ‘pin it’ button, I recommend making sure you are including a pre-designed pin within your blog that clearly labels what your blog is about and the benefits (as mentioned in step 4).

If the pre-designed image is re-pinned, it is more likely to be successful on Pinterest than a random image from your blog.

Step 6: Create eye-catching images for Pinterest

You’ve got your boards, your blog is published, and it’s time to design your pins. Pins that perform well on Pinterest typically have the following:

  • Clear and clean imagery
  • Easy-to-read text overlay
  • A Call to Action

Avoid creating pins that are too cluttered, with text that is too close together and images that make no sense. You want to make your pins clear, clean and easy to navigate.

Step 7: Hook people in with a title that promises to solve their problem

Your words are vital when designing your pin, especially if you are a service-based business.

Use language that is easy to understand and read on a small screen.

Use a hook within your title to promise or entice the person looking for help to click to read your blog.

Examples of hooks that work well on Pinterest include:

  • X easy ways to [do this thing]
  • Is [this thing] stopping you from achieving [result]
  • Unlock the secret to [this result]. Read the blog now
  • 5 Simple Steps to [achieving this thing]

Step 8: Pin fresh content consistently that leads to your blog

Create fresh pins that lead to your blog URL (use a different image on your pin each time you share your URL for your pin to be classed as ‘fresh’). This blog explains more about what fresh content on Pinterest means.

Schedule your pins in advance if you can, one pin a day is plenty, and I recommend you use the Pinterest scheduler for the best results. Read this blog to learn more about how to use the Pinterest scheduler.

Step 9: Have a Lead Magnet on your blog that encourages people to take the next step with you

Getting people to your blog is half the battle. What happens when they get to your article? Is there an opportunity for them to take the next step with you?

You don’t want people to bounce away from your blog once they’ve read it. You need to encourage them to stay and explore your site.

Are you linking to other blogs they may enjoy?

Do you have a related lead magnet they can download? This could be as simple as having key information from your blog in an easy-to-print format.

Are there well-timed pop-ups on your site with a special offer or freebie? I use Convertbox to manage the pop-ups on my blog, and it has been integral tool in helping me to grow my email list.
